King of Boys" follows the story of Alhaja Eniola Salami, a businesswoman and philanthropist with a checkered past and a promising political future.

She is a pillar of society — loved by many, feared by most, and truly known by a select few. As her political ambitions see her outgrowing the underworld connections responsible for her considerable wealth, she’s drawn into a power struggle that threatens everything she holds dear.

To come out of this on top, she will need every ounce of the cunning, ruthlessness, and strategy that took her to the top, as well as the loyalty of those closest to her. But who can she really trust?

Kemi Adetiba’s “King of Boys” is a three hour visual experience in the guise of a movie. In 3 hours it manages to dismantle many nollywood tropes and presuppositions while engaging the audience in a way that some 15 minute short films still struggle to do.

Kemi Adetiba’s King of Boys is a flawed but ambitious Nollywood epic. The story also has some genuinely interesting twists. And although the cinematography fails to conjure into existence a needed noir atmosphere, the acting is almost evenly good, with Remilekun ‘Reminisce’ Safaru and Sobowale at the great-to-exceptional end.

The story is very much relatable to Nigeria, the gangsters, the whistle blowers, corruption, money laundering.etc. but I didn't like the way it ended.
Shola shobowales role was nice, I liked how tough she was, but I didnt like the fact that she later went soft, I liked Adesuwas role, she was calm but knew when to speak up, I didn't like the fact that she died, that part seemed unreal to me, even the blood looked fake. I also liked makanakis role, the was so vibrant. I liked the younger version of Shola shobowale, they couldn't have picked a better person, Toni tones nailed that role. Lots of things to learn from it, most importantly “Karma" Eniola's past came back to hunt her by taking away her daughter and son.

General review
It was a lovely movie, very relatable and interesting, I like the plot and the setting of the movie, but the movie was too long, some part would have been cut short or the would have made it into a part 1 and 2.

I liked The acting performances especially that of Makanaki and Eniola Salami (Sola Sobowale),

It felt like I was watching a localized take on the Godfather
I liked: I liked The acting performances especially that of Makanaki (Reminisce) and Eniola Salami (Sola Sobowale),
The depiction of the relatable corruption prevalent in Nigeria
The subtle infusion of humour in Odogwu Malis (IllBliss) character
Some of the character dialogues (e.g. scenes with Eniola and Aare Akinwande, scene )

I didn't like:
Poor editing. Several scenes were either overly long and seemed to be dragging e.g. some of the policeman's scenes, the Makanaki/Eniola religious prayer scenes etc, or not even required at all e.g. the Music performance near the start of the movie
The long running time (especially as it could easily have been avoided in this instance)
Unnecessary wailing and screaming by some of the characters (especially Eniola Badmus, that is her acting trademark, but the director should have caught that as it was out of character for her role)
The practical/special effects in the prison scene can be improved upon, there was no fire in the prison, minimal smoke, etc.

King of boys review.

Overall rating: 7/10. The movie is captivating, realistic, intense and has a strong acting.

Story: 7/10. The story is interesting and it was well delivered. The transition at the beginning was so good I liked the fact that the movie switched from merriment to gangsterism which was highly not predictable also the transitioning from present day to past events was simply amazing.

Actors performance: 8/10. The acting was strong and intense I think the primary actors deserves an accolade the delivery was authentic. Although if feel since the table in the movie was depicted as one which holds power, the members asides makanaki and odugu mala should have been seen as strong characters but they were dormant.

Cinematography: 6/10. The cinematography was not so good because most scenes seemed dark.

The special effects: 6/10. Some of the effects didn't seem real for example the part were adesua was shoot also the part were Sola sobowale was in jail she didn't seem to have been choked by the choke even in while she was in it.

Production design: 7/10. The production design is also good. The movie is captivating although it was quite lengthy I feel it could have been a little shorter. Also it was realistic because it depicts the happens in our Nigerian society likes of gangsterism, crime and politics.
The ending for me isn't so great because I feel the hard sofisticated king of boys was cracked and she became weak or repented as opposed to the tough, bloody king of boys first introduced to us the in the movie.

General review: 7/10. King of boys despite it flaws the movie is gripping and personally I rate it as the best movie of 2018.
